Stealing Breath Tour Stop [Excerpt]

Sitting down on the bed, he stretched his socks apart to put them on, and I caught a glimpse of the partially destroyed scar on his hand, his brand. My hand, as if of its own volition, reached out to touch it.

My finger jolted as if singed from the contact, while my mind simultaneously flashed with an image of Evan, his face contorted in a silent scream. I let go. A low groan emitted from deep in his throat, a moan of resistance, but he held out his hand anyway, giving me perfect access to his scar.

The skin looked as I remembered it, thick and ropy where it had knitted back together. Ignoring the still reddened slice right down the middle of the mark, I tried to focus on the original design. Immediately the memory of it came into sharp focus.

The newer skin of the scar was white, the old skin outlined darker pink around it. A large, upside down triangle was on top, with lines through it, creating another set of triangles inside it. I shuddered as I tried to imagine the pain of being burned to the point where it would leave a life- long mark like this.

I placed my thumb directly on top of it. Emotional pain flooded in, like getting stabbed with a blunt-edged blade. These were Evan’s feelings shuddering through me, not my own. Shame and horror temporarily blinded me, but I held my thumb firmly on top of the mark on his hand.

The image of Evan’s hand, the skin more youthful and smooth, came into sharp focus, a hissing sound and wisps of smoke rising from a branding iron pressed to his skin. Red-hotpain blasted through my own hand, as if I was feeling this situation myself. Was I experiencing Evan’s own memory? Was I seeing and feeling what it was like for Evan that terrible day where he’d been branded by his own father?

Then Evan’s body went from rigid to slack with the removal of the instrument from his skin. The blistering mark was clear on his hand, his skin red and angry.

Next, I was seeing Stefano’s face. But there was neither pain nor fear in his eyes, only a steely indifference as the red-hot branding iron sizzled on his flesh. Once it was removed, a slow smile crept across his face, a smile mirrored by the brander himself, an attractive man who appeared to be in his forties, with the same thick dark hair and angular jawline as Evan. But his eyes were black and glittering, like Stefano. Never before had I felt such an intense stab of betrayal, the kind of deep betrayal that comes only from a place of love; the betrayal of a father harming his own son.

I removed my hand and the image evaporated. Reality came into focus before me so fast I felt immediately nauseous and dizzy from the transition.

“I saw it. And I felt it. All of it,” I said in a husky whisper.

Reaction by Jessica Roberts - Book Tour Stop (Review)

Reaction

Author: Jessica Roberts
Series: Sequel to Reflection
Published: November 5th, 2012
Genre: New Adult // Contemporary // Romance

Note : I received this e-book for the Reaction book tour hosted by YA Bound!
Harmony…

I’ve previously had that in my life, but only once, briefly, a while ago. It was during the time I’d started my first year of college. My own apartment, a new old car, and a life free of deadbeat stepfathers, all of which was fulfilling enough. But if it wasn’t, I also had a best friend, soul mate, and boyfriend all in one. Yes, life was near perfect.

But one stormy night can change everything…

For many months I rested in a prolonged sleep, fighting for my life. Well, more than fighting for it, also dreaming of it. Dreaming of him. Thank goodness, the dream is over and I’m back in the real world now. And all I want is for everything to return to the way it was. But nothing’s the same; most of all, us.

Once again, I find myself at the crossroads of a ruthless battle, this time not for life, but love. Do I fight for the guy I twice fell for, or do I let her take him away?

My Rating :

Be warned if you haven't read the first book !

Oh jesus, this book rocked my world. Literally. When I started the first book I was hooked and then I get to this beautiful baby and it was just a roller coaster of emotions! I really don't know how I'm going to write a review for this because it was just one of those books that was so incredibly amazing that I am speechless. Bear with me, guys.

So this book starts off where Reflection left off, and I won't go into detail about what happened or anything like that- because it would be extreme spoilers. Honestly, I find it hard to tell you all anything because this book was so good, even minor details seem like spoilers to me! (I hope my gushing gets you all to read this book, because it deserves to be read. It does) But any who, the main characters name is Harmony and in the first book she has an accident and is sent into a coma, well in the second book- it's been a good while since she's out of it and you'd think everything would be all great, right? No.

Harmony is definitely not happy with her life right now, for one big specific reason I won't tell you.. (cough, cough) and goes to extremes trying to change it to the way she wants it to be. This brings a lot of consequences to Harmony that is a bit overbearing for her. She has to go through all of this and deal with all of her issues and the problems she has caused for herself.

I really don't want to go into detail about this book because it is just too good to spoil anything. The author is flawless, the character development worked out perfectly, the plot was interesting and had me on my toes the entire way, I just.. can't think of one thing I didn't like about this book. You all gotta trust me when I say there is no possible way you could regret reading this book! I'm pretty sure I read both in two days tops, staying up extremely late to finish. It was just that good. So take my word for it, and go read it!

Update

Changes to the blog !

Hi everyone! I know I haven't been posting very frequently lately and I am sooo sorry! I am so behind on everything and I honestly am not going to be able to speed things up much. School is craaazy and tires me out like nothing else- so my posts will be less frequent.

I have been putting this off forever hoping I can keep on track and post as much as I did in the summer but it's just not happening. I'm going to try and hopefully post about once a week, and see how that goes!

I have some tour stops coming up so obviously I'll have those up so make sure and look for them! Hope everyone is having an awesome day. (:
